Employment in Canada for newcomers

Finding work in Canada often means learning a new job-search culture, getting your credentials recognized, and sometimes re-licensing for a regulated profession. There is free help for every step.

Find employment resources

Searching for work

A Canadian résumé is usually one or two pages and does not include a photo, age, or marital status. Use Job Bank and local employment agencies, and tailor each résumé to the role. Networking and informational interviews matter in many fields.

Credential recognition

If your occupation is regulated (for example nursing, engineering, or skilled trades), you must be licensed by the provincial regulator before you can work in that role. For non-regulated work, an Educational Credential Assessment helps employers understand your qualifications.

Free employment services

Government-funded employment services help newcomers with résumés, interview practice, and job placement at no cost. Settlement agencies and Job Bank are good starting points.
